Historical Background

Laura Backus and Leslie Terry are founders and managers of Pendragon Stud Equestrian Center, LLC which began operation May 1st, 1998. It began as a vision and 78 beautiful acres at the base of Best Butte near Larkspur, Colorado. From there, the horse barn, hay barn, outdoor arena, indoor arena, pasture fences and a manager’s house were built. We held our first official show on July 26th the same year. Since that time we have expanded to host recognized dressage shows, a beginner event & combined test, several hunter/jumper schooling shows, Pony Club events, an Adult Rider Club, eventing and kids' camps and many clinics each year. Besides our highly accredited “in-house” instructor, we have had notable clinicians such as Kim Walnes, Kay Meredith and Eric Horgan teach at our facility. But we've been around the horse community a lot longer than 1998 (see some early pics below), even years before we moved to Colorado in 1978. We built our dream slowly, one step at a time, over those years to get to where we are. Now we're living and loving that dream. And, with Madeline Backus joining our team, we have three generations of dedicated equestrians serving the needs of eventers and other horse enthusiasts in Colorado.
